During his visit Reagan reiterated the U.S. commitment to abiding by the three joint communiqués and to implementing the "one China" policy. Four agreements and protocols were signed, including one on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. Also initialed was the agreement on cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy.
